Backing Up the Component Database
5/10/2007
You should back up your component database before you install Update Rollup 1.0 for Windows XP Embedded. This allows you to use the latest component definitions for your new configurations, and provides you with the ability to restore your old database later, so you can maintain and update any configurations based on the previous version of the component database.
There are several common scenarios for which you should back up your component database:
- You are installing Update Rollup 1.0 for Windows XP Embedded. For example, you want to back up your Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007 component database before you install Update Rollup 1.0 for Windows XP Embedded. This allows you to update any configurations created with the Feature Pack 2007 component database later.
- You need to update a configuration that was created with a previous version of the Windows XP Embedded component database. For example, you already have Update Rollup 1.0 for Windows XP Embedded installed, and you have just received a QFE for Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007 that you need to apply to a configuration that you created with the Feature Pack 2007 component database.
Note
You should also back up your repository. Because the repository can be quite large, use a backup utility to select the appropriate data, storage media, and location. For more information, see Backing Up the Repository.
