A category is a group to which components can be added to make them easier to find in Target Designer. Categories are pre-defined by Microsoft, and membership in a category is specified by using Component Designer.
Categories are intended to collect components according to functionality. For example, the Printing & Imaging category can be used to show all printing software components. This category is also divided into two subcategories, Applications and Infrastructure. Categories and subcategories are displayed in a tree view in Target Designer.
Components can have membership in any number of categories. A category is the one type of group that cannot be defined by using Component Designer.
