Windows Internet Services Overview
The Windows Internet Services feature for Microsoft® Windows® CE .NET provides base Internet client functionality, including support for FTP, Autodial, Auto Proxy, Passport Authentication, and Credential Manager. The Windows Internet (WinInet) application programming interface (API) lets application developers add Internet client functionality to their applications without the programming overhead associated with Windows Sockets and communications protocols.
Effective with version 4.1, WinInet can be supported on headless platforms. In version 4.2, WinInet has been optimized for performance and a smaller footprint, with the Passport SSI 1.4 authentication service now an optional component. Also effective with version 4.2, OEMs can customize the information that dialog boxes provide to users. For more information see Replacing the WinInet User Interface.
