Connecting to a Device Over an Existing Named Connection

In a named connection, you can store settings required to download an OS image to a target device or to establish a kernel-level connection to the target device. For more information, see Creating a Named Connection.

With Platform Builder, you can create multiple named connections. The following procedure shows you how to load the settings for a named connection that you stored previously, and to then use those settings to connect to a target device.

To connect to a device over an existing named connection

  1. From the Target menu, choose Configure Remote Connection.

  2. From the Active named connection box, choose the named connection that you created.

  3. Verify that the settings for the named connection match the settings that you stored previously, and then choose OK.

  4. If you want to download an OS image to the target device before connecting the development workstation to the target device, from the Target menu, choose Download / Initialize.

Note   To begin the process of downloading the OS image to a hardware device, the hardware device must send a BOOTME message to the development workstation. For example, to begin downloading an OS image to a CEPC, you must restart the CEPC to generate a BOOTME message.

If you want to connect the development workstation to a Windows CE OS that is already running on the target device, from the Target menu, choose Connect.
