WPS XML Master File

Note  Wireless Provisioning Services (WPS) is no longer available as of Windows Vista.

The WPS XML Master file contains the XML elements from the Master schema. These elements define the global attributes of the WISP domain, including the following:

  • Domain name of the WISP.

  • Time-to-live (TTL) expiration values. WPS uses the TTL value for updates to the WISP's XML data.

  • An HTTPS URL to be used for XML data updates.

  • Lists of configuration and EAP-based authentication XML files used to provision the WISP's wireless network. XML files that are linked to a Master file are called subfiles.

  • Lists of URLs to other XML Master files. Each Master file in the list identifies a separate WISP domain. These Master files along with their subfiles will be downloaded and saved in the WPS provisioning store.

The list of subfiles within the Master file is grouped by language. Language groups are named in RFC 1766format. The Master file can contain one or more language groups. The Master file must contain a language group for English (en).

Each subfile declaration in the Master files contains the following XML elements:

  • Name
This is the name of the subfile type. For more information about subfile names and types, see WPS XML Subfiles.

  • URL
This is the HTTPS URL used by WPS for downloading the subfile from the WISP.

  • Version
This is the version of the XML data within the subfile. WPS uses this element to determine whether to update the subfile following a TTL expiration.

For an example of a Master file, see Sample Master XML Data.
