Service Pack 2 for Business Contact Manager 2007 Released

We are pleased to announce that Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 is released. The scope of SP2 was limited to fixing product bugs reported by customers through various channels like this blog, newsgroup and watson.

We have also released Service Pack 2 for Office 2007. Outlook team has done tremendous work to improve the performance. Both BCM and Office service packs will improve overall experience and stability of Outlook + BCM.

You can get SP2 through Windows Update or directly download from the links shown below.

    Posted my original post in the wrong place.  Should have posted here.  The BCM SP2 update on 4/28 along with other updates did not go well and and the MSSMLBIZ instance of the SQL Server was rendered nonfunctional.  How I repaired my installation is described in this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/bcm/archive/2007/02/20/sql-server-service-pack-2-release.aspx#9581777

    Great news on the BCM SP2 ... But ... There is still no way to add the "Company" field in any BCM Report. Considering the amount of users requesting this feature, I believe it should be added to the next update of BCM. Was this just a plain oversight?

    I am having the exact same symptom as MaitreMind and it is very frustrating. I have been using a database located on my local MSSQLSERVER instance for years. Immediately after installing SP2, it can no longer find the database. All attempts at qualifying with instance names, ports, changing ports to 5356 on the 127.0.0.1 IP address have failed. How did I set this up the first time? Why did if fail after SP2? How do I reconfigure it so that it can see the MSSQLSERVER this time around? Is there a config file I can't seem to find? Please help. One instance of SQL Server on a laptop is enough. This seems a bit trickier than it needs to be. -Vince

    We are running 8 Windows Vista computers networked together with Outlook/BCM 2007 integrated with MOA Professional 2009.  All of the computers have the latest SP and updates for all of the microsoft programs.   We are having a recurring problem with user defined views.  If there are more than around 100 items in a user defined view, scrolling causes the screen to go blank.  This only happens in user defined views and not in the standard views that are preconfigured. Any advice on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thank you, Bill

    I was wondering if there was any way to merge or sync outlook contacts with BCM contacts. (I already copied from contacts to BCM contacts to populate but that is only an interim solutions for me)  I have the same problem everyone else seems to have with leveraging my contacts as well as being able to use my smart phone.  Thanks so much.     I am a little disappointed to not see a reply to my earlier post. However, I solved my connectivity issue on my own. The solution is to use the BCM for Outlook 2007 Database Tool and share the existing database even though it is local. Your login credentials will likely be given access by default. If not, then add them. Then, when starting Outlook, choose the option to select a new database when the initial "Can't find the database" dialog presents itself. However, don't use the suggested format of [MachineName][InstanceName],[port] when entering the Computer Name in the "Create or Select a BCM Database" dialog. Instead use the format .[InstanceName],[port]. For some reason, BCM does not allow you to enter the same machine name if you are connecting locally. It must be a dot. Problem solved. You may be able to skip the whole sharing the database step, but I have not tested it that way, so reply back and let me know.

    Is there any news regarding permissions users have to access contacts added through bcm. What I mean is if I have several users but I only want them to access there own contacts in the network shared db. I don't what individual users to see other users contacts. I just want to store them in a central db so if one of our sales people leave we have the contacts from that user. Any updates?

    I am in the proces of deploying BCM SP2 to 20+ users.  I am experiencing severe performance issues every Monday morning when users come back to the office and try to synch with the server. The details of my setup are in the link provided above. Is anyone else experiencing these kinds of performance issues when users come back to the office after being gone for a few days?

    I am running outlook 2007 with business contact manager on a vista system. It worked perfectly for a few years. Now suddenly, BCM is causing outlook 2007 to crash. What do I do?

    Each time I run BCM it crashes on a outlook 2007 system. I have opened it in safe mode, diabled add ins, scaned the pst files, checked the BCM data file, run a repair and office diagnostic, reinstalled outlook, reinstalled business contact manager. I have put my whole business onto BCM and am really worried about my decision to go Microsoft. I can't have a core system like this crashing. What do I do to get it back running.

    We are using BCM 2007.  All laptop computers running BCM have had a memory upgrade to at least 4GB RAM; I have 8GB RAM.  When I am remote, I connect to the host machine via a VPN connection, connection speeds are very slow; searching and other functions are well below average performance.  We have about 15,000 account records in the BCM database.  Contacts are probably the same.  Is the record count an issue for BCM?  Seems like SQL should be able to handle this amount of data? Any best practices to help improve speed?  Our users don't want to use BCM because of the poor performance time and the above average number of times the our users "lock" up Outlook and have to shut down.

    Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong forum, maybe you can direct me to the right place, but i have just installed BCM for Outlook 2007 and i am trying to migrate my Journal Entries into the Communication History in BCM - I am rapidly getting the feeling that this is not possible even though I imported all of the same contacts with the Journal Entries into the BCM Contacts....help?

    Mate, I find that hard to comprehend as I have been dilligently using my journal for a long time and all the activities are quite well defined by outlook as phone calls, meeting requests, emails etc... and are attributed to a contact from within the application...I just can't understand why BCM can't import the data that is pinned to a contact??

    Well I have had a bit more of a look around at the blogs and have found several where people have expressed their frustration at the very same issue...I find it unfathomable that your journal entries in outlook and the journal entries (which is all they are really) in BCM are not compatible??? When i try to copy the actual entries and paste them directly into the Communication History, the error says that it can't be done unless they are linked to a "Business Contact" or an Opportunity etc.. yet they ARE linked to a contact! Just can't believe it...its a big deal because the entire history of my client activity is in my journal!

    We have 2 PC on XP and 3 on windows 7.  Our current BCM DB is on the XP machine.  As we installed Office 2007 and BCM on windows 7, we have an issue with Word on Windows 7 machine.  It has an error of "BCM add in not compatible".  What do we need to do to resove this issue?
