I'm suddenly getting a windows security popup every time I open Edge

Suddenly I'm getting this very annoying Windows Security pop-up every time I start Edge, and usually when I open a new tab.

I haven't changed a thing on this computer - I try not to log onto Microsoft anything. What did they change to make this thing pop up all the time, and how do I make it stop??

This is extremely annoying!

I do not want to verify it's me; it's none of their business!

Does this problem only appear when opening a new tab page, or does the same situation occur on other specific sites? Try the block popup settings mentioned by community members below, does it work?

It occurs usually when I open a new tab, but not all the time. It ALWAYS comes up when I first start Edge.

It isn't a standard sort of ad pop-up, but it looks like MS wants me log in or something. Here's the pop-up.

When I click on "Use a method not listed here," I get a password request saying I'm trying to access sensitive information, which is not the case at all, unless model train websites and such are "sensitive information."

This screen:

Blocking pop-ups doesn't work.

MS doesn't need to be trying to verify my identity for anything except when I try to access their services in some way. I have passwords that protect any "sensitive" information I might try to access.

I get exactly these same screens if I click "Sign in" in the upper right corner of Edge. I don't WANT to sign in! What shenanigans is MS trying to pull now?

This is so frustrating; I'm about to get rid of this computer. Half an hour ago, someone asked me to send a photo from my photos. I was unable to do it because it was too difficult. Why do these things have to be so difficult? It wouldn't bother me so much, but I've spent the last four days with this posted problem, and I'm no closer to a solution. I'm walking away from this computer for the day. I'll try tomorrow.

On webpage (any)

Click on the three vertical dots options button

Choose "Settings"

Choose "Auto fill and Passwords"

Choose "Google Password Manager"

Choose "Settings"

Find "Use Windows Hello when filling passwords"

UNCLICK option

Thanks much. Log in constantly was driving me crazy when passwords already saved. I'm not the Gov. Microsoft doesn't need every info. we have.

Thank you! This issue was particularly annoying as the credential request dialogue would discretely appear on one of my other monitors and, when I didn't notice it, I would get furious at an application's disabled password entry facilities!

Thank you. Your response was a lifesaver. It was getting so annoying trying to get into even the most simple sites. I have no idea why the Microsoft Hello option was even turned on!

This was a great find! Thank you for the solution. We operate a business where we visit various websites that require a password. Since my computer is used by me and my wife only, the passwords are set to auto-fill...which is a pretty pointless tool of convenience if I have to prove who I am every time I go to one of these websites. And yes, I know that I could easily have my computer utilize the facial recognition or finger print feature. But since I use a wireless key board that is ergo friendly, the fingerprint option is not available. As for facial recognition...I do not believe for a second that Microsoft, Google, and everyone else is not utilizing this as a way to gain more information about us. Just this week Google got slapped again for tracking people - even though they have their device(s) set to operate in "incognito" mode. It is supposed to be my phone, my laptop, etc., etc. Nothing is actually mine. I could go on and on...but so could we all.

I had this issue. It turned out to be a browser setting. "Use Windows Hello when filling passwords"

The 'Use Windows Hello' option is already disabled but I still get the popup.... Other options are to turn off the PIN option in the Sign In settings but wouldn't this turn off using the PIN when logging in??

I'm having a similar problem - but I don't think it's related to Edge, since Edge is not running. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to get rid of it?

Please refer an article mentioned below for turning off pop ups in Microsoft Edge.

On the other hand, go to Settings >> Privacy & Security >> App & Browser control >> Turn off Reputation based protection and click on dismiss followed by a machine restart.

Please update with your findings!

No such a thing I could find. In Edge, the closest is "Settings >> Privacy, search, and services" and nothing like app & browser control.

Tried in Windows settings too - there's "Privacy" and there's "Update & Security," but I didn't see anything like the path you've mentioned. Where is it?

Windows components > Windows Security > Notifications. Open the Hide all notifications setting and set it to Enabled. Click OK.

As far as I know, it should be caused by autofill password setting, try changing the setting to see if it works for you:

Open Edge -> Navigate to edge://settings/passwords -> turn off Autofill passwords setting. Like this below:

If this still not work, try to navigate to edge://settings/clearBrowserData and clear all data in Edge to check.

Thanks. I'd prefer not to turn off autofill, because I use it all the time (medical, etc.). I've used it this way for years; it appears MS now wants everyone (can't believe it's just me) to log into their accounts whenever they use Edge.

I've turned off autofill temporarily, to see if this solves the issue. If that doesn't do it, I'll just dump Edge and go to Chrome.
