I'm suddenly getting a windows security popup every time I open Edge

Suddenly I'm getting this very annoying Windows Security pop-up every time I start Edge, and usually when I open a new tab.

I haven't changed a thing on this computer - I try not to log onto Microsoft anything. What did they change to make this thing pop up all the time, and how do I make it stop??

This is extremely annoying!

I do not want to verify it's me; it's none of their business!

Does this problem only appear when opening a new tab page, or does the same situation occur on other specific sites? Try the block popup settings mentioned by community members below, does it work?

It occurs usually when I open a new tab, but not all the time. It ALWAYS comes up when I first start Edge.

It isn't a standard sort of ad pop-up, but it looks like MS wants me log in or something. Here's the pop-up.

When I click on "Use a method not listed here," I get a password request saying I'm trying to access sensitive information, which is not the case at all, unless model train websites and such are "sensitive information."

This screen:

Blocking pop-ups doesn't work.

MS doesn't need to be trying to verify my identity for anything except when I try to access their services in some way. I have passwords that protect any "sensitive" information I might try to access.

I get exactly these same screens if I click "Sign in" in the upper right corner of Edge. I don't WANT to sign in! What shenanigans is MS trying to pull now?

This is so frustrating; I'm about to get rid of this computer. Half an hour ago, someone asked me to send a photo from my photos. I was unable to do it because it was too difficult. Why do these things have to be so difficult? It wouldn't bother me so much, but I've spent the last four days with this posted problem, and I'm no closer to a solution. I'm walking away from this computer for the day. I'll try tomorrow.

I also have the same problem. Info about my machine:

shared azure virtual desktop

microsoft edge version: 121.0.2277.112 64 bit

Windows 10 OS

I tried everything: blocking pop ups, which were blocked anyway, turned off autofill and everything password related but no luck at all.

Edge asks for PIN when I try to connect to IIS web site hosted internally. It asks for credentials, which is correct but shortly after Windows Security pops up with request for PIN!
I do not have Windows Hello option in Passwords settings in Edge:

In fact I don't have it on any of the devices, no matter of a build number.

I know it has been years since this thread was active, but I accidentally caused this issue on my Win 11 (23H2) with Edge (126.0.2592.61), and I know what I did, and what happened as a result and what fix worked for me.

I know not all causes are the same, but maybe this can also help someone.

Late last night, while half asleep I downloaded an application to install and didn't notice the download was a few MB instead of over a GB. True as bob, I downloaded some or other thing that claimed to be a download assistant. I immediately uninstalled it, but it did leave a scar.

This morning, I found this thread while trying to find out why a security window was staring at me. This window was clearly not in error! After opening edge settings to check some of my settings that was mentioned in previous posts, I saw a bar above my settings window, stating that my edge is managed by my organization...

So it seems that group policy was enabled, and a policy to install an extension (with a name that looks like a cat walked over the keyboard) without authorization check was active. (edge://policy/)(https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-gb/deployedge/microsoft-edge-policies#extensioninstallforcelist).

I checked and I was lucky, no extensions was installed. I followed some of these steps (https://windowsloop.com/edge-managed-by-your-organization-fix/#:~:text=Do%20the%20following%20to%20fix%20and%20remove%20the,computer%20with%20an%20antivirus%20Reset%20the%20Edge%20browser) to remove the group policy lockout. I removed the 2 directories in the system32 folder (they were empty), and the registry key in HKEY)LOCAL_MACHINE. There was nothing under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

It all looks peachy now again. Hope this helps someone.

Summary:
Remove directories:

c:\windows\system32\GroupPolicy

c:\windows\system32\GroupPolicyUsers

Remove registry folder if it exists:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
