Hello,

In our organization, we are currently evaluating Azure Files as a solution for file sharing. However, we have a specific question regarding authentication methods. Is it possible to integrate Azure Files with Active Directory (AD) for the purpose of mounting the drives on macOS systems? We aim to avoid using storage keys for this process and prefer utilizing AD authentication to streamline access management.

Thank you for your assistance.

    Hello Abdelilah AIT BENDRA,

Thank you for posting your query here!

Currently, AD authentication for Azure Files is supported only on Windows and Linux.

Only supported on Windows clients running OS versions Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 or newer, or Linux VMs (Ubuntu 18.04+ or an equivalent RHEL or SLES VM) running on Azure.

Please refer: Overview - On-premises AD DS authentication to Azure file shares | Microsoft Learn

You can however use storage account and key to map to Azure files, but AD Auth is not currently supported.
