In genere, si usa il IsPresent metodo per determinare se il sistema operativo supporta la funzionalità o la metrica specifica identificata da enumValue. In base al valore restituito da IsPresent, si eseguirebbero azioni condizionali nel codice. Ad esempio, se si chiama questo metodo con un valore di parametro di FlatMenu restituisce true, è possibile creare menu creati dal proprietario nell'applicazione in uno stile flat.

L'accesso a alcune funzionalità o metriche di sistema può generare eccezioni se non sono disponibili in una versione specifica del sistema operativo. In questo caso, usare prima il valore di enumerazione corrispondente SystemParameter , insieme a IsPresent, per determinare se la metrica è supportata. Ad esempio, chiamare IsPresent con CaretWidth prima di ottenere il valore della SystemInformation.CaretWidth proprietà.
