Una classe che implementa un'interfaccia di servizio locale deve essere aggiunta a ExternalDataExchangeService e può essere utilizzata da CallExternalMethodActivity e HandleExternalEventActivity.

Eventi su interfacce che sono attribuite con ExternalDataExchangeAttribute devono contenere dati di evento che derivano da ExternalDataEventArgs.

Mentre i tipi generici sono supportati per le dichiarazioni di metodi ed eventi di interfaccia, non lo sono per la dichiarazione dell'interfaccia stessa. L'interfaccia seguente non può essere utilizzata come ExternalDataExchange.
