I have the new outlook and hadn't worked on a computer for 10 years. All I want to do is send emails that I want to save to go through later or maybe keep. I actually want to send emails to a compressed file to save room and also cloud space. Some of these emails will be coming from a file folder in outlook that is large or bulk. I found all sorts of directions, but none of them apply + I am really new at some of this due to not working on the computer for quite awhile. Technology has changed big time. Thank you for any assistance.
"New" Outlook data files
I'm using the "New" Outlook on my new PC. I understand that this app will not read .pst files, for now. For years, I copied and moved my .pst files from PC to PC. I can still read my archived .pst files on my old PC, so not a huge issue.
My question is, what does this New Outlook use for data files, such as for my archives and contacts, and where are they located? Can I create my archive on my storage drive vs my Windows drive, same as I've done forever with my .pst files? I want to be able to copy and move these files same as I did my .pst files. Thanks!

2024-07-09T01:31:12.7266667+00:00 I agree with David about needing clearer information about breaking changes, but I also feel PST files should be avoided wherever possible, especially in a corporate / enterprise environment.
PST files have long had an issue of corrupting after they get to a certain size, they are not backed up as they are stored on the local computer (unless a user backs them up) and there are better alternatives, such as online archive, for archiving emails.
If it is a corporate environment, I would look at using Online Archive and moving emails from the PST files to the Online Archive instead. If you are using Exchange On Prem and not the Cloud Exchange, then use the archiving built into exchange. This will ensure that the archive is backed up and reduce compatibility and corruption issues associated with the outdated PST file methods.

2024-10-16T13:50:51.07+00:00 I use pst files to archive my email. This can be important for legal reasons. I can't believe Microsoft only allows a year's worth of email. How do I download my email and remove it from Microsoft's prying eyes (bots)?
